270 Shops Burnt down In Jos Terminus Market Fire, Millions of Naira Lost!!!!

Report reaching us is Properties worth millions of naira, were on Saturday morning, destroyed in Jos Terminus Market, Plateau State, as traders wept, counting their losses.

The Chairman of the traders association in Plateau, Mr. Abdulrahman Yusuf, told journalists in Jos that over 270 shops with properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.
“We have one trader in this market that lost goods worth over N20m. It’s a huge loss and it’s quite devastating,” he lamented.

Yusuf called on government to come to the aid of the traders, so they could bounce back.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the market, which was razed by fire in 2001, had since been repopulated by petty traders with makeshift shops.

The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Matthias Tyopev, in an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, said, “There was a fire incident at the popular main market in Jos. Goods and warehouses were destroyed. The Plateau State Commissioner of Police (Undie Adie), and chairman of the Jos North Local Government Area were there to ascertain the level of damage.

“We can’t estimate the total amount lost because so many people were involved; the loss is unquantifiable because the fire was severe.”

Tyopev, in a statement, later noted that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the deployment of policemen in the market.

He said, “At about 1.22am, there was a fire incident at Jos Terminus Market. The commissioner of police in Plateau led detectives to the scene at about O745hrs. He instructed that security be beefed up around the market so that some people would not take undue advantage of the unfortunate situation.

“The cause of the fire is still unclear but shall be made public as soon as the fire service carries out the assessment. Before his arrival, the police personnel of Angwan Rogo, ‘C’, ‘A’ and Nasarawa Gwong Divisions were already on the ground.”

Governor Simon Lalong offered his condolences to the victims of the inferno.
The governor, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Yakubu Dati, described the incident as unfortunate, coming at a time when the state was on the path to recovery from recent challenges.

Recall that in 2016, after Drake’s “One Dance,” featuring WizKid and Kyla topped the billboard chart for over 10 weeks, Wizkid and Drake collaborated in bringing out ‘Come closer’

A rumoured beef was quickly making rounds at that time after Wizkid was nowhere to be found on the video of Drake’s ‘One Dance’ and vice versa for ‘Come Closer.

However, Wizkid’s recent link up with the Canadian rappers, shows there’s no bad blood between both of them.

Drake’s rankings are as follows: “Nice for What” at No. 1; “Nonstop” at No. 2; “God’s Plan” at No. 4; “In My Feelings” at No. 6; “I’m Upset” at No. 7; “Emotionless” at No. 8; and “Don’t Matter to Me,” featuring Michael Jackson, at No. 9.

FRANCE DEFEATS ARGENTINA IN 7 GOALS THRILLER

Argentina have crashed out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup after they were beaten 4-3 by France in the Round of 16 on Saturday.

Antoine Griezmann gave France an early lead when he converted a penalty after Marcos Rojo had brought down Kylian Mbappe in the danger area in the 11th minute.

Angel Di Maria’s superb strike just before half time put Argentina back in the game and rekindled their hope.
Argentina took a remarkable lead just after the break, thanks to Gabriel Mercado’s effort that sent fans at the stadium into wild celebration.

But the French side found their way back when Benjamin Pavard drew level in the 57th minute before Mbappe scored two goals in just four minutes to extend France lead.

Substitute Sergio Aguero reduced the deficit at added time, but that was not enough to save the day for the Lionel-Messi led side.

France have now qualified for the quarter final, and will play the winner between Uruguay and Portugal.

SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN VARSITY CULT CONFESS: We wanted to be feared by our teachers!

"We wanted to be feared by our teachers and untouchable in town. We equally wanted to be in control. That is why we joined cult groups in Adekunle Ajasin University”.

This was the confession of two secondary school students, Sadiq Jimoh and Raji Wasiu, of Oroke High School, Akungba-Akoko accused of being cult members at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA). Jimoh and Wasiu were said to have been lured by leaders of a cult group in the university in order to use them as foot soldiers while also using them to recruit their colleagues in their school. The suspects confessed to the police that they decided to join the cult after they were told what they could benefit if they became members.
“After they (cult members at AAUA) approached us, we agreed with them because we want to belong, want to be respected by our fellow student, we want our teachers to fear us, we don’t want any more harassment in school or in town”, they said. “They told us during initiation that once we became members, we would become untouchable in or out of school. “We were even told that money would be made available to us all the time if we agreed to be members”. According to the suspects, those who recruited them into the group assured them that even security agents, especially the police, would be afraid to touch, not to talk of arresting them. A police source disclosed to Sunday Vanguard that consequent upon their initiation into the cult, they began to terrorise Akungba-Akoko community and environs. Suspected cult leaders at the university were named as Peter Yoyiho, a 400-level student in plant science and biotechnology, and Daramola Temitope, a 400-level student in English and literary studies. Their cult group was identified as Aiye Confraternity.

Tip-off
Nemesis, it was learnt, caught up with the suspects when, acting on a tip-off, police detective swooped on them at a popular hotel in the university town where they were allegedly meeting preparatory to launching an attack on a rival cult. Confirming the arrest of the suspects, Ondo State Police Commissioner, Gbenga Adeyanju, said, “On 06/06/2018, at about 3.30p.m., information was received that some suspected cultists, who had been terrorizing Akungba-Akoko community and environs were planning an attack. “Based on the tip-off, detectives attached to Akungba Division swung into action and apprehended one Peter Yoyiho at a hotel who confessed to being a member of Aiye Confraternity. “Jimoh Taiwo and Daramola Temitope, said to belong to Aiye cult group were also arrested while Sadiq Jimoh and Raji Wasiu, both students of Oroke High School who confessed to being members of Scorpion cult group, were apprehended too”. The commissioner said that the four suspects may be charged to court depending on the outcome of investigation. Yoyiho, during an interview, told Sunday Vanguard he is a son of a military officer. The suspect cult leader said he joined the cult because he wanted to be among the “big boys on campus”. The suspect, who said he had brought shame to his parents, begged for forgiveness. He pleaded for a second chance after which he would turn a new leaf and become an advocate of ‘No to cultism in the university’.

Officers of the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch have arrested three Nigerian nationals and a local woman for duping people to the tune of over one crore rupees in fake lottery schemes.

The accused have been identified as Nigerian IT engineer, Suleiman Lawal (62) alias Benjamin, his Indian wife Bandana Chhetri alias Niki Anjali Gupta (43) Ugochukwu Usifo alias Brown Bruno (32), and Ichaba Lucky Igele (41)

The accused used to send text messages and e-mails to the unsuspecting victims informing them that they had won huge amounts in lottery schemes.

"The gang would cheat people by sending them fake lottery messages and e-mails. Names of companies like Coca-Cola, Samsung, Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, International Monetary Fund and the UN were used as well to lure people,"  said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) G Ramgopal Naik.
Through these organisations, police said, the gang would tell people that they had won a lottery worth a million dollars.

The police received a complaint from a farmer, Sardar Kamaljeet Singh of Punjab, who told them that he was cheated of a sum of one a half crore rupees by Nigerians. He added that an Indian woman was calling him, demanding an additional Rs 45 lakhs, claiming that they needed to bribe police officials with this money in order to get his winnings cleared. The complainant was called to Delhi by the accused to pay the last instalment.

On June 23, a trap was lad by the Crime Branch sleuths at a bus stand in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar and two of the accused were arrested. Four mobile phones, fake US dollars, three laptops ans passports were seized from their possession. Two more arrest, including that of the Indian woman, were made subsequently.

Benjamin told the police that his visa expired in February 2014 but he continued staying in India illegally. In order to earn quick bucks he contacted his Nigerian counterparts in Delhi. Since Brown Bruno was an IT expert he took the data of clients and sent bulk messages and emails to lure them on the pretext of lottery amount from Coca-Cola, Samsung, International Monetary Fund, and the UN.
The gang members also spoke to the alleged targets in the voice of a woman using a software. They then sent messages to many people and later sent them fake documents related to the lottery from the Directorate of Income Tax, Monetary Fund, RBI, UN on the pretext that they had won a million US dollars.

The Nigerian High Commission has been informed of the arrests.
